XP Home SP2 OEM "Use Simple File Sharing" is not available

In a fresh installation of XP Home SP2 OEM on a new hard drive, there is no
option for Use Simple File Sharing under Folder Options: View: Advanced
Settings.

By default, Simple File Sharing is enabled in Home, and that seems to be
functional. But I wanted to turn off Simple File Sharing and make fuller
use of Permissions for a temporary situation.

The Server service is running, by the way.

Is there another way to fix this - a Registry mod, for instance? I didn't
find anythign in the Knowledgebase.

To access the Security tab for a folder on a computer running Windows XP Home
Edition you'll need to boot the computer into Safe Mode. Restart the computer
and start hitting the F8 key. When the menu comes up, use the up arrow key to
select Safe Mode.

According to the information on this web site, there is a way to make the
Security tab available on an XP HE computer in normal mode.

How Do I see the Security Tab in XP Home?

I've never tried this, so I can't say whether it works or not.

Good luck

Thanks, Nepatsfan and VanguardLH, for clarifying the basic position and
offering a couple workarounds!
