XP Home SP2 error

I am getting a error message of "This version of windows media technologies
is not compatible with this version of windows" when I try to run WMP by
itself and inside IE I get "Faulting application iexplore.exe, version
6.0.2900.2180, faulting module wmp.dll, version 9.0.0.3250, fault address
0x002452b2." and I send the report and it crashes IE. I am on a XP Home
Machine with SP2 installed. I've trued reinstalling both IE and WMP. I have
verified there are no viruses, spyware or anything that can obviously be the
problem. I have Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, and AVG running on this machine,
including Teatimer.

this is my mothers machine she had been able to view the HGTV website videos
and then mysteriously she lost that ability, I've tried everything I can to
fix this, shy of wiping the system and reinstalling.

Robert:

Navigate to C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and copy wmploc.dll to
C:\Windows\System32. Now, run the WMP 10 installer again. That should do
the trick. If it doesn't, a few other options are 1) Restore to a previous
point (before the problem) using System Restore (Control Panel, Performance
and Maintenance and click the System Restore link on the left), 2) Uninstall
Service Pack 2 and revert back to SP1, reinstall Windows Media Player and
then reinstall SP2, or 3) Uninstall Service Pack 2 and revert back to SP1,
reinstall Windows Media Player and then reinstall SP2.

Hope this helps.
