XP home shut down

On shut downthemessage comes up " it is now safe to turn
off your computer " On turning off the processor the
screen does turn off , but the processor does not (only
by the mains )
Please help if you can : in any case shouldnot the
processor switch off automatically ?

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power
Options.
Click the APM tab.
Check to select the Enable Advanced Power Management Support check box, and
then click OK.
