shut down

I have installed xp on a 1gh machine with 128mg sdram and 40gig hdd.When i
shut i down i have a hibernate option,which i have found can be turned off
but when i shut the machine down it wont turn off automaticaly but gives you
the on screen promt "it is now safe to turn of your computer".Can it be set
to turn off automaticaly?i have not come across this before,what is the
reason?.

Thanks Denny,sorted the problem through power managment,APM,advanced power
managment.This a new hobby,so far with great results but info sites like this
one are a great help.
