XP Home Security Centre not starting

I have at last come to my senses and uninstalled Norton Internet Security
2007 using their uninstall tool. On trying to reorganise my PC security I
have noticed thet the Security Centre "has been started or was stopped" when
opening it. The text goes on to tell me to restart my PC or start the
Security Centre service. Restarting does not work and I am at a loss as to
how to get it going again. Can anybody advise. Cheers

Hello happypagey,

If you uninstalled the Security software on your PC, I think the prompt from
Security Centre will always come up until you install a new Anti-Virus
Software.

I'll make a suggestion and you take it for what it's worth. If you want
something free, you can use AVG Free, (google it) That's only if you have 1
PC. If you want something with Support, and faster updates go with the
regular AVG. I have heard that Trend's program works pretty good, but AVG
gives you a 2 years license, where I think Trend only gives you 1 year.

Take care Good luck,

Hi Jay

I am trying out a freebie antivirus, Avast. This was installed within a few
hours of taking out Norton. I noticed that the Security Centre was switched
of when switching the windows firewall back on. I do not get the screen
showing me that the Firewall is switched on or off (the one with the green
bar, with 2 other options showing either on or off) hope you know what I mean.

Avast seems to working ok without the problems that Norton gave me. But as
you suggest it has not turned the security centre on . Cheers............

You need to the security service back on. this is done by gong to control
panel, Admin tools, computer management, Services and applications, services.

Scroll down to "Security Center" and double click. A new window should pop
up withe security center properties. All you need ot do is check to make sure
startup type is Automatic, and you can click on <Start> to start the service.
This will cause security center to run and start the next time you start
windows. You should see the securtiy center icon in the corner.

My thoughts on this is it just takes up system resources. But each to his own.
