"Security Centre" currently unavailable

Error message reads "The Security Centre is currently unavailable because the
Security Centre service has not started or was stopped. Please close this
window, restart the computer (or start the Security Centre service), and then
open the Security Centre again.

Restart does not work. How do I "start the Security Centre service"?

(Windows XP SP2, Home machine, no system admin available -- no item under
"Resources" seems relevant -- any change in Automatic Updates radio buttons
does seem to take effect)

Hi lacemaker239,

Go to Start>Run and key in:
services.msc
Click on OK or hit ENTER
Scroll down to locate Security Center and then double-click on it. Ensure
that the Startup type is set to Automatic and click on the Start button
under Service status. Click on OK, then close the Services window.

Thanks -- that solved the problem.

Your very clear (words of one syllable or less) instructions missed out
"click Apply to activate the Start button" but I managed to figure that out
myself (see me patting myself on the back. Start - Run is a place I don't
willing go.)

Any idea what I did to turn things off? (so I don't do it again)
