XP Home scroll bar not smooth

When I click on and hold the scroll bar to drag it up or down or click on the arrows to move the page it up or down it moves but the screen does not move in one smooth block. It moves up or down in a jerky way a few lines at a time. Is there a way to make it smooth. I have downlaoded the recomended drivers from windows update site but this did not alter the problem.

Using XP Home Edition SP1 IE6 520 MB

On Internet Explorer click internet options/advanced tab..see if use smooth
scrolling is checked and if not check it.
It's about half way down the advanced tab.
