XP Home Login Problems

I was installing some basic updates through
windowsupdate.microsoft.com on an XP Home PC, and everything installed
fine. I updated the McAfee VirusScan, and when I rebooted, I was
unable to login. The PC booted up OK, and I was at the profile
selection screen. I selected the only profile on the PC, and it
started to login OK. Then suddenly, without any intervention from me,
the PC is logging off the profile and back at the profile selection
screen. I generally use Windows 2000, so I'm a bit rough with XP.
Can anyone help?

Run a virus scan and try the system file checker tool, (

click start, run, and type in; " sfc /scannow " with that
space after the sfc. This can be a virus, worm, or a
corrupt system file.

I did run a scan when I updated McAfee, and 2 files were infected.
One file was mssys.exe, and the other was an unfamiliar file. McAfee
cleaned both the files, but I beleive that it deleted the file.
