Unable to get past welcome screen - login/logoff loop

Whenever I boot my Windows XP Pro, I get the welcome screen and when I
attempt to login in any of the profiles, it says "Loading profile" and
immediately says "Saving your settings.... loggin off". I has stuck in
this loop.

This is what I did when my comp was working fine:
I ran mwav.exe to remove viruses. (http://www.msspl.co.in/products/
mwav/mwav.asp)
I ran the latest stinger from McAfee
I ran some brontok virus removal tool (I don't remember the name)

After doing the above tasks, I am unable to login.

I was unable to unhide my hidden folders and someone suggested me to
run the above tools because my PC was infected by viruses and
unfortunately I do not have antivirus software.

I searched a bit and came to know that if you overwite wsaupdater with
userinit file it works. Therfore, I booted from CD and went into
repair. I copied userinit.ex_ file from the CD and put it in C:\Windows
\System32 as wsaupdater.exe and then tried logging into safe mode to
change few registry keys with repect to userinit keys.

I was unable to login to safe mode too and it doesn't lets me login.

Can somebody help?

This is usually caused by the system being unable to locate
the file userinit.exe, e.g. after a disk cloning operation or
because of malware problems. The solution depends on your
configuration:
a) The machine is part of a network with other PCs (easy)
b) It is a desktop PC and you have ready access to another
desktop PC (not so easy)
c) None of the above (much harder).

I suspect that a Repair Install won't help you. However, you have a
good chance of fixing the problem with a manual System Restore -
see here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
Post again if this does not resolve the problem.

Quite possibly it will. You will find out straight away when
booting the machine into Recovery Console mode: Either
there are some System Restore folders and files or there aren't.
