XP Home: enable autorun on flash drives only ?

N

Number One

Hi all,

A while ago I made following registry change to disable "autorun" on
CD-ROM drives on my XP Home SP2 system:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:0x000000FF

(Initial dword value before change was: 0x00000091)

I just purchased an USB flash drive with "U3 technology", and would like
to enable autorun for the flash drive only (but still keep it disabled
for the CD/DVD drives), to automatically load the "U3 control panel"
upon connection.

Is this possible? Will another DWORD value for above key do it?

Thanks.

Yes. I recommmend that you use Tweak UI to accomplish this the easy way:

Install Tweak UI tool (you can download it from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx).
Run the program, open "My computer" section, AutoPlay, Types, place a check
next to "Enable Autoplay for removable drives" and uncheck "Enable Autoplay
for CD and DVD drives". Click OK to apply the changes.
