Autorun Intermittent

Lynn

Hi
I am becoming quite frustrated with my new laptop!! Had my new one
delivered on the 9th Jan, I find that the Autorun is intermittent. It works
sometimes and sometimes doesn't. I am running XP Home. I have the Autoplay
set up. I have checked the Registry and these are the settings I would
appreciate any input anyone can give me.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDROM/Autorun
REG_DWORD 0X000000001 (1)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explore
r/
NoDriveTypeAutoRun 0X00000091 (145)

AutoRunAlways Disable REG_MULTI_S2 NEC MBR_7 NEC MBR-7.4 PIONEER
CHANGR DRM - 1840X PIONEER CD-ROM DRM_6324 X PIONEER CD-ROM DRM_624X
ROISAN CD-ROM CDR_C36

Hi Lynn,

There is a file here that will help, copy it to your system and run it. It
resets the autoplay defaults.
ftp://12.107.147.141/WinXP%20Autorun%20fix/

Thanks Rick. Excuse me if I'm being thick here but being as my laptop is
only a few days old, don't want to do anything wrong!! I take it that I
connect to the internet via the link which I will have to type in on my
laptop I presume something will then be sent to the laptop, just didn't
understand what you meant by 'copy it to my system'. Then do I just find
the file and double click it? As you can probably tell, I've not done
anything like this before. I have to have step by step instructions at the
moment :-(

Hi Lynn,

Actually, it's an ftp link, so nothing will be sent automatically (which is
nice, but can be dangerous). If you copy/paste the address into the address
bar of Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer, it will open to a folder on my
server. There you will find one file, just drag and drop it onto your
desktop (or you can use right-click/"copy to folder" and place it wherever
you like). It's a fairly small file - 77k - so it should only take a moment.
Then doubleclick this file to run it.

Hi Rick
Will have a go at it. Do you think it will solve the problem I'd seen this
link published before but thought it would only be relevant to people whose
Autorun never worked at all, whereas mine does sometimes then doesn't
others.
One thing I have noticed is that I can have put a music CD in and it plays
it okay, then I put in a CD (with a prog on it) which I want to install on
my laptop which has always autorun, if it fails then it then fails for music
CDs and any other CD until it is rebooted. Its as if the failure once, then
stops everything else responding it will even fail to start up the Finepix
prog after my camera is inserted and has downloaded pics.

Hi Lynn,

Only by trying will we know the answer. But yes, I do think it will work.
