Good Day,

I have in front of me a Dell Dimension 2400, XPH SP2. It has no
'discovered' viruses, according to our Norton Corp. V: 10.0.1.1000, and a
couple online scans. I've looked for adware/spyware and none found.

I have checked the power scheme and it is set to always on. I perused
the bios, and everything looked normal. There is no 'trigger' and/or
regularity to the computer shutting down.

I've googled for this problem and well, I haven't found anything as of
yet. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Jmcws

I forgot to mention, that I did uncheck the restart on system failure, as
well as the system is not overheating.

The event log, both App & Sys shows nothing abnormal.

Thanks for answering, anything else comes to mind?

Dear jmcws,

I was also experiencing same problem. After depth analysis I found that my
CPU’s fan is not fitted correctly but while adjusting I broke the fan
accidentally and hence I have to buy new one but after fitting it properly
the problem did solve. Check for your CPU’s temperature in BIOS if it is
higher than usual first and be extremely careful while handling CPU’s fan.

Best Regards,
Ameya.

Thanks for your reply Ameya,

I have a motherboard monitor 5 on the pc as I thought it would be
overheating, but unfortunately, that is not the case with this computer,
although, I thank you very much for your suggestion.

If there are still reboots, you can bet that this is a hardware issue.

Hows it operate in safe mode?

Actually, this I haven't tested. I've had this running in normal mode for
that last hour or so, it hasn't restarted "yet". It restarted about 2
minutes upon 1st boot today. Hasn't since. I have been putting various work
loads on it, nothing so far. The last user stated it rebooted at least 15
times a day.

Yeah, this is what I'm leaning towards. Any ideas as to what. Think the
drive is going? All connections to devices and the board are secured.

thanks,

A faulty power suppy could be the culpit as well. Take the computer to
a technician/repair shop in order to waste no more time.

LOL! The fingers were typing too fast. Again:
A faulty power supply could be the culprit as well.

Well, if it isn't a hardware problem, I guess all you can blame it on is the
crappy operating system you're using.
