Start/Shutdown-always get a "Ending Program...Please Wait" prompt

Everytime I shut down the computer, I get a pop-up window that indicates that
it is Ending Program...Please Wait. It pertains to the Symantec Antivirus
application.

O/S is XP Pro; Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition Version 8; Dell
OptiplexGX270.
The above only happens for the Symantec application and when performing a
shutdown. I have done the following in an attempt to resolve the issue:
1)Ran full Norton Antivirus; no viruses found
2)Looked at Symantecs website for help - nothing found
3)Uninstalled Norton Antivirus and LiveUpdate
4)Reinstalled application
5)Uninstalled again
6)Deleted any entry in the Registry for: Norton Antivirus/Symantec/LiveUpdate
7)Ran Hijack this - nothing suspicious found
8)Ran Trend Micro - nothing suspicous found
9)Looked at Registry to see what loads during startup; looks find

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

CCAPP? I see that behavior on lots of computers I work on. And even on my
own occasionly. However, it usually goes away by itself if you wait it out.
I'll admit it's annoying. It'll be interesting to see if you find a
solution.

This might solve your problem:
When you shut down XP, it attempts to end all tasks that are currently
running. If a task does not respond nor shuts down, XP will wait a specific
amount of time before forcing the task to end. This time frame is referred
to as the timeout. If you do not want XP to wait as long to end a
non-responsive task, you can decrease the timeout value.

To accomplish this:

1. Open the Registry Editor.

2. Expand the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop.

3. In the details pane, double click the WaitToKillAppTimeout. The
default value is 20000 milliseconds or 20 seconds.

4. Set the value lower than the default. The minimum value is 1
millisecond.

5. Close the Registry Editor.

6. Restart XP.
