xp home and the microsoft update

Dear All,
I obtained the free Microsoft security updates on two CD's. I leant
these to a friend who was not aware of the updates. She loaded them onto
her computer (xp home). Now it seems to take an age to boot up and seems
to run slowly. Any ideas, and any remedies?

Alex, just the Security Updates ? Try looking for virus, spyware,
adware and trojans.

Yes, just the updates on the CD ROM from Microsoft. My friend is also
using NAV 2004 and has not detected any viruses etc. Any ideas?
