XP hard drive partition

Moir

Using Win XP Home (Fat32) and I wish to change the partitions on my hard
drive. Currently my hard drive has four partitions as follows:
C: 9.31gb, Free space 2.42gb
D: 9.22gb, Free space 7.62gb
E: 9.22gb, Free space 9.19gb
F: 9.48gb, Free space 9.30gb.

I wish to only have 2 partitions by increasing C: and D: to equal sizes (or
as close as).

I have bought Partition Magic 8 but just need someone familiar with
Partition Magic to give me a guide as to how to best achieve my objective
without reformatting and starting all over again. I don't need to "stuffup"
this whole exercise through fear and ignorance. <g>

Thanks

Hi,

Click on Tools, then on Drivemapping. If you want or need to merge,
delete or move partitions or programs, Partition Magic will do its best
to make all the registry changes needed to keep things working as they
should.

If you have a good way to backup your important stuff, it might be a
good time to do so. Partition Magic has worked as advertised for me so
far, and I haven't needed the backup.

Thanks Jim, that is a start for me.......

Will be merging partitions rather than deleting and was wondering do I merge
F: into E: and the result into D: then take a part of D: and give to C:?? OR
do I just merge F: into D: and E: into C:?

Hi again Geoff,

Why don't you play a little with Partition Magic and see what happens to
things, and build a bit of confidence too. Make a new partition or two
and install a small program on one of them. Next run Partition Magics
tricks and see if it works as advertised, merging the two new partitions.

If the installed program still works after snatching it's drive letter
out from under it and merging it into another drive letter, I'd think it
would be a good exercise.

Thanks Jim, I managed to work my way through my "project" successfully
(whew) and the big lesson I learned was that merging only happens between
adjoining partitions. Thus I merged E: and F: and then merged that with D:
and moved some of D: spare capacity to C: and obtained the result I was
hoping for and have found no problems with the job done. Feel a lot happier
with how Partition magic works. Thanks again.

Hi again,

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall that learing process myself
once upon a time, only being able to merge things together that were
side by side but eventually being able to move the free space across drives.

Partition Magic does wonders, as does Ghost too!
