XP hangs when idle

Hello,

Yesterday I bought a new HP Pavillion desktop PC. It came with Vista,
but I decided to install XP. All runs fine, except for the following:

- The PC stands idle for some time in the login screen (click your
username, blabla)

- The screensaver with 'Windows XP' logo hopping around the screen kicks
in. The logo keeps hopping around

- The mouse is touched - the PC tries to wake up, the screensaver
disappears, and the screen goes blank. The mouse can still be moved,
but nothing else is possible.

All powersaving options are disabled in XP.

How to debug such a problem ?

Thank you,

sounds like s driver problem. MS suggests running MSCONFIG and disabling all
3rd party drivers then enble one at a time until you establish which one is
causing the problem (I had this a few years ago). Also, check the event
logs, they might show something.
