XP Hangs on shutdown with Brother Brother MFC 4800 conected to USB

HI,

We have two Dell notebooks, Insp 5150 and Insp 600m. XP Hangs on shutdown
every time with Brother Brother MFC 4800 conected to the USB port.

Both machines have the latest printer driver and BIOS. When other USB
devices like memory cards, or wireless mice are left plugged in the machines
shut down fine. If we leave the Brother printer plugged into the USB port
they will crash every time on shutdown.

Has any one else had this problem? Is there any work around so we don't
have to disconnect the printer every time we shut down? Device mgr shows
everything is well. Already removed and re-installed devices, drivers etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
ed

Hey Kelly,

I went to the 1st download link, got the correct file saved to my desktop.
Windows XP RTM/Restarting Windows XP

It did not self install so I drilled down to the self installing cab file,
started it, but it errors out and stops. "Q307274 the ver. of win. you have
installed does not match the update you are trying to install."

This is a new machine with Win XP Pro/SP2. The info on the kb page was
correct in stating that we have an asian lang support installed.

I will try your reg shutdown changes later and let you know if it works.

Thanks,
ed

btw...just tried the reg settings from your site. brother printer still
hangs os when it is plugged into usb. system seems to shut down all the way,
hd's etc, but the display hangs on 'windows is shutting down'. need to hard
boot off. re-starts fine with brother plugged in.
