XP hangs immediately after installing it

After installing XP pro on a brand new system, the system
hangs on the bootup screen with the blue bar at the
bottom. The blue bar moves across once and stops
completely with one bar showing on the left end. Safe mode
with newworking also hangs but not safe mode / safe mode
with command prompt. Any idea how to solve this?

I had the same problem on an Intel board and it drove me
nuts. It turned out to be a problem with the BIOS. I had
all 4 IDE devices set to auto detect. I had a CD Writer
from Yamaha on one chain that worked with auto detect in
Win2000 but not in XP. I had to configure the BIOS
manually for that device and not use auto detect. It
works fine now.
