Is it really necessary to unplug everything (except KB and Mouse) for
this...or just stick the CD in and hope for the best? From past experience
I know I'll have to uninstall my Intel Pro/100VE connection as it stalls any
installation if present.
I know I'll have to reinstall Updates afterwards.

It may or may not be necessary in individual cases, but it's easy to do, and
when upgrading an operating system you're looking for every reason to make
it go smoothly.

Peter;
No, it is not always necessary.
But the extra peripherals sometimes cause problems so it can be a good
preventative measure.

Better to be safe than sorry I suppose. No big deal.
If the worst happens I can always format and fresh install using the XP Home
SP2 CD as proof of the original installation.
Thanks.

Well, it's installed (got to change my sig) but Shut Down and Restart don't
work nor does my McAfee Viruscan or Firewall....weird.
