XP Freezing?

Over the last few days Windows XP has been freezing however after 1 minute or
so it comes back it seems like something isn't responding like the Hard Drive
but I've done a whole full virus scan and it didn't find a thing.
Please help!

it can be a lot of things
causing it to freeze momentarily,
i mean " a lot" of things.
