XP Freezes in Safe Mode

Windows XP Home Edition freezes in safe mode (start button
won't open, clicking My Computer freezes, the whole screen
just freezes), but when I boot into normal mode, I don't
have any problems. Why is this happening? I checked if I
had viruses, but I didn't, so I don't know what the problem is.

By chance, did you post this in reverse?

I did not post this in reverse. My XP will work under
normal mode, but when I boot under safe mode, it freezes
when I click on any of the programs or the start menu.
