XP firewall

A short while ago I found a method of setting up XP firewall to fulfill
all the requirements of the various firewall test sites. I even posted
the site to at least one ng.
My harddrive had to be reformatted and I lost all my newsgroup files.
Can anybody remember the site address?

A search via Google will reveal addresses for you; however,
you do realize that this firewall does _not_ monitor/prevent
outbound traffic, do you not?

No matter how you fiddle with it, the XP firewall will NOT pass Steve
Gibson's firewall LeakTest: http://www.grc.com/lt/leaktest.htm

Ian.

Thanks for that.
I'm sure I solved that so I'll just have to go and rummage around.

I passed the pc audit test with Kerio 2.1.5.

Hmm, that's strange, just did the test again with Kerio 2.1.5 to make sure,
it still fails here. Do you have any tips on the settings of Kerio ?

My Zone Alarm Pro passed the test. Also my McAfee told me that Leak
Test is a virus, so it passed a test too.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant Zone Alarm Free version, but still it seems
that people with freeware firewalls pass the test, and I'm unfortunetly not
one of them.

That's not a firewall test, it's just a scam to get you
to install pcInternet Patrol. For actual testing, it sends
you to:
www.grc.com/lt/leaktest.htm
www.tooleaky.zensoft.com
www.keir.net/firehole.html

Heck, it even tagged Forte Agent as being malicious!

It didn't tag anything as being malicious on my system and I can't remember
any indication given to me that I should install pcInternetpatrol, so if
it's a scam, it's a bad one. It just showed some information about my system
which it was able to send out. Not sure we're talking about the same thing
here.

Yes it is

Oops! My apologies. I clicked on the 'More' link at the
bottom of the page, and totally overlooked the download
link at the top of the first page. :(

As for the test, it asked me to type something in
any program, which I did -- these words. It then
tried to use Agent and a few other internet-aware
programs to send data ... it failed. Outpost passed.

"Congratulations, pcAudit was blocked! If you have
used a personal firewall to block pcAudit, ask yourself
3 questions: ... blah, blah, blah".

Gibson's firewall LeakTest: http://www.grc.com/lt/leaktest.htm

FW(s) costing $1,000 won't pass the worthless and somewhat ridiculous
Gibson Leaktest either. A stateful FW application's job is to stop
unsolicited inbound traffic, meaning if an application on the machine
didn't solicited the inbound traffic, then the FW will not allow the
traffic, otherwise, the traffic is a allowed - (statefulness).

The worthless crutch App Control in PFW(s) is overrated and can be easily
circumvented and defeated by malware.

XP's FW for SP 2 will have App Control when it's released.

Do you see anywhere in the link about App Control in a FW?

Mike my ZoneAlarm Pro v 3.7.159 did not pass tooleaky test. What do you
recommend ?

Practice safe computing and stop worrying about subcontracting your
security to software. If you're not indiscriminately installing
programs, or using unsafe P2P file sharing, what you have should be
perfectly adequate. The usefulness in those leak tests is they point out
the foolishness of putting all of your faith in some firewall to provide
100% protection.

The test app tries to connect out using any open program; they do not
have to be "internet aware".
Was your browser open when you ran the test?
