It's not 0.9. It's a 0.9 *release candidate*. The expected official
release date for 0.9 is either June 12 or June 14, depending on how stable
the RC turns out.

Very true: Firefox's official page is still at v0.8, so I'll wait until that
gets updated before downloading.

In the past, I heard it would only be an install. Today,
I looked on the main page/download, saw the executable, not the page
you mentioned.

Glad to see it comes that way too.

Well, it's true that they could be more clear on this sort of things. You
can usually find these things out on http://mozillazine.org, in the forums
(search facility) or in the comments on news items.

Cannot see that. 0.8 is still the only version you can download....

How does it compare with K-Meleon?

Frank
There isn't much difference that I can see. I have both and have been
gravitating to K-Meleon, but can't say why exactly.

They both have excellent privacy and pop up control.

Only gripe with both is that neither supplies an "images" button the
way Netscape 4 does. When I'm searching for something, I like to run
text only and open lots of windows then just browse the text for
information and load the images if they seem necessary or worth
looking at.

They are both good and both free - try both and see.

I've been using Firebird 0.7 on a P166. I have a large bookmark file
from Netscape. I just started using Firefox 0.8 and it does work fine on
a P166. It seems to load a little quicker, and my bookmark file loads
much faster. Seems to be an improvement over Firebird.

Comment on Firefox vs. Firebird?

I'm not an early-bird either. When Firebird was replaced with Firefox
[.7 to .8] an installer exe was incorporated which began placing entries
into the registry. Unfortunately, the initial uninstall was not tested,
and could delete your entire Program Files folder. I can live without
those kinds of mistakes.

I'm happy with 0.7+ and will probably wait until 1.0 is just as solid
before upgrading. I'm just not into beta testing but I LOVE Firebird.

All versions of Firebird aka Firefox have been available without an
installer. They just don't make it easy to find for some reason. I
personally have never used the installer and never had a problem. At the
moment I'm running versions 8 and 9 RC on the same computer.

Zip version sans installer is here:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-0.9/

Has a couple of new features and page loads are much faster.
