XP fax, WinFax won't answer second incoming fax

Hi everyone,

Have installed WinFax(10.03)for XP. Will answer first
incoming call, not second without reboot. Installed a
hardware PCI modem (USR 5610B) and its XP driver, same
thing. Removed WinFax and installed XP fax console, same
thing. It just won't release the modem after first
receipt. Anyone having similar problem, solution?

Hi there

I am having the same problem since I starting running
Windows XP. I have used internal modem, external modem,
multi function printer with fax from PC - all have the
same problem - obviously big XP Prob. I have resorted
to the old fax machine without PC input. Hate it but
what else can we do until a fix comes up

Figures.
Unfortunately, Windows XP Fax has proven to be incompatible with many common
modems and drivers, particularly USR, even if the manufacturers claim they
are "compatible" with Windows XP. Modem incompatibility is not apparent
during installation or the initial setup.
For the time being, the best advice is to attempt to use XP Fax only if you
have a modem that is listed on the Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List
and using the latest drivers.

Hi Russ,

Symantec said it was due to XP assigning IRQ 18 to my
modem, WinFax could only go up to IRQ 5. XP does not
allow a change of IRQ. But it does the same thing with
Windows Fax Console in XP.

What did Symantec tell you when you asked them?
