XP Fax Unable to install!!! HELP!!!

D

DD

I'm sure this is common (well from what I have seen on the internet anyway).
I have bought 3 LG Notebooks with XP SP2 already installed (as well as 3
Clone PC's). I have an SBS 2003 server and am using the Shared Fax.

I can install the faxing on the 3 PC's, but I can't install on the
notebooks. When I first tried, they couldn't find the files...I followed all
the TechNet and tech based website articles on how to get this working and
none worked.

I try to setup faxing now and it goes through the setup, no errors or
request for files and then faxing isn't there. The fax printer appears and
then disappears once the setup is complete. The event log indicates that the
service was installed then deleted.

What can be done regarding this issue as it is driving the staff nuts??!!
And I can't find any further articles indicating how to get this installed.
I can't see why it wasn't already installed on the laptops as they did come
with an internal modem!!

Anyone help???

Thanks

Damien

2. Why can't the XP Fax Installation Program find the Installation Files?

In this case, it sounds like the security data base is corrupted as
documented here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884018/EN-US/
You cannot add a Windows component in Windows XP

You can either:

1. Get the hotfix mentioned in the KB article and install it. Microsoft
usually waives any charges for support calls to get supported hotfixes
listed in Knowledge Base articles.

2. Try this procedure using the Esentutl.exe utility mentioned in the KB
article to recover from security database corruption:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00270202
HP and Compaq Notebook PCs: Unable to Install Windows XP Fax Software

Note that Microsoft does NOT recommend that you use the Esentutl.exe utility
and would prefer you try the hotfix.
