XP Embedded Remote Boot problem

Siva

Hi All,

I am trying to setup XP embedded through remote boot

My XP Embedded SP1 image size 160MB.

Created an SDI File for 256 MB and copy all the XP embedded files in to it.

Server: Using Windows 2000 advance server with SP4 as my remote boot server,
in which i have installed DHCP and Embedded studio had been installed

I followed all the instruction as per the document, i could able to download
the ramdisk image from the server. after that i can see Windows XP Embedded
Logo for some time. then the screen goes blank. i left it for some time (say
5 mins), then i got any error message with a blue screen:

A Kernel thread terminated while holding a mutex

is there any thing i could do with the hardware. please help.

Siva,

Can you give the specifics of your hardware? Looks like something specific
to your hardware is at fault. Are you using a NVIDIA-based video card ?

Can you try the same steps that you did for a machine with a different
hardware configuration.

Thanks
Nandini

Siva,

Did you run the image on the hardware before capturing the post-FBA image. You have to do that before using Remote Boot solution.
If you did, how the image ran on the target? Any problems, errors in logs?

yes i did. Post-FBA was perfectly working. this hardware unit, we were
using it for quite a longtime to build XP embedded Terminals. just
thought of trying remote boot on this.

the terminal which i am using has got 512MB of RAM, its a VIA EPIA
Motherboard(Mini-ITX). i have seen same problem reported in this forum
earlier.

its a VIA EPIA Motherboard, which has got onboard Display card.

How much memory is in the device you're trying to remote boot? If
you've got a 256Mb image, you'll need something like 384Mb of free
memory at least to get it to boot.

I'd suggest making the SDI as small as possible, i.e. 160 Mb. Use SDI
Loader to create a 256Mb base SDI, then partition it to around 165Mb,
copy the image into that new partition, and then use sdimgr.wsf to
create the RBS SDI.

I had a similar problem (no BSOD, but no boot either) using an SDI that
was too big for the available memory.

i have got 512 MB of RAM. my image size is 160 MB. so i created SDI DISK of
180MB with FAT Partition.

added all the components like WindowsRamdisk, System cloning, FAT and NTFS
file, etc.,

i can able to download the image on to the memory, after that i can see
windows logo for some time.

The error could be related to your video card. Could you try replacing your
video card and see if this issue reproduces?

Thanks
