XP Embedded - Installing Hardware not preinstalled in OS

So i am working with an HP Thin Client with the latest build of the XPE from
January of this year. I am trying to install a PCI to PCMCIA adapter using
the optional extension and riser card. I verified that the PCI adapter is
working in a desktop and loads properly in XP Pro but embedded seems to be a
whole other issue.

So to give you an idea of what i have had to do with the thin client...

First, I unlocked Windows Update which allowed it to run but i have yet to
get windows genuine advantage and the 3.1 installer to do more than download.
They fail at installing but no error messages explain why.

Next i found the chipset drivers for my adapter, ENE CB 1410, and installed
those onto the machine. This makes my device disapper from the Device
Manager, but does not load it as a PCMCIA device as it does on the desktop i
tested it on.

At some point i was getting and error that said "Required section is not
found in the inf file." So I know that what ever portion of the UPNP is
missing that this device normally uses to install.

Next i searched for the driver that the desktop was using, pcmcia.sys and
put in in the exact same location on the thin client. I rescanned for new
hardware and it failed.

At this point, I am willing to try anything to get this to work. I figure
that if there was a way to extract the UPNP device settings for PCMCIA
devices from a regular install and inject them into embedded might add the
functionality i need.

hp Thin Client with XP Embedded

will cause you no end of headaches

the whole concept is ridiculous

the whole point in a thin client is not having a hard disk

but these have Flash Disks which are even harder to manage

not to mention it takes 40 minutes to image a 2GB flash drive

during which time the machine is unusable - this can NOT be done
remotely
you have to physically attend

XPe is missing a huge list of DLLs and features

you can bodge it up by copying files from Windows XP

but this is not a robust or manageable solution

the hardware is great however

use emBoot to boot to a full Windows XP installation on the network
or use iSCSI

and you have a better solution

DO NOT USE XP EMBEDDED or FLASH DISKS

you will regret it
