xp driver question for cell phone

Hi,
I have a Samsung SGH-D807 phone and bought a data cable for it from Ebay.
It came with a Driver CD.
Using XP's plug and play routine failed. It couldn't find a driver.
So lets use the supplied CD.
The CD has drivers for zillions of phones, and under Samsung
it listed 6 types like this:
TYPE SM1
TYPE SM2
etc, thought SM6.
I just spent the last half hour doing searches and fishing around on
Samsung's website trying to determine which type my phone is with
no success.
Can anybody tell how to find out?
Thanks,
Alic

Why not just go to the Samsung website and get them from there?

As a Brit I'd like to thank the Americans for their help in the war
against terror because if they'd not funded the IRA for 30 years, we
wouldn't know how to deal with terrorists.

I thought of and did that after the post but couldn't find a driver on their
website. I found a software "suite" there called "pc studio 3," a 60 Meg
download ,and installed it. It allows 2 way communication with the phone,
but windows still doesn't see the phone. It makes the usb sound when it's
plugged in or removed, but ithe phone doesn't show up in my file managers.
The phone has a 1 gig data chip in it. I was hoping to access that directly
via a file manager.

Alic,

Phones don't generally work that way. Many such functionalities are
not supported or are even purposely blocked by the vendor. After
installing the correct Samsung drivers, you then have a shot at
addressing the phone's file system by using a program like BitPim or
DataPilot or the like. These things are proprietary and can differ on
each model, but may work even if your model is not officially
supported. In my case with an unsupported Samsung u410 phone and
using PC Studio 3 drivers, BitPim worked very well. Beware, the phone
keeps index files that must match directory contents for the files to
function, but in my case BitPim handled this automatically.
