XP doesn't find hard drive

Hello-
I used Drive Image 7 to copy the computer's hard drive to
another, new hard drive. The data appears to have
transferred properly. All the files and folders are the
same on the master & slave drives. I removed the original
drive (set as master for the transfer)and set the jumper
on the new drive to Master. The drive is reported in the
BIOS but Windows doesn't find it. After the Dell splash
screen, I get a message that there is no drive and to
press F1 to boot or F2 to enter setup. Setup shows the
drive.
I booted from the XP Pro CD and went to Recovery Console.
I ran CHKDSK /r. The drive was found and the CHKDSK ran
successfully. I then entered FIXMBR C: and that too found
the drive and performed properly. I then entered FIXBOOT
C: and that too performed properly and gave the message
that it had repaired problems. I then rebooted and again
Windows cannot find the hard drive and prompts me to go to
the setup program (again...). I'm stumped. Any ideas or
suggestios are greatly appreciated.

I have been having a similar problem. What I was
instructed to do (by the hard drive tech support) was to
partition and format within Windows XP by using the Disk
Management utility. The new disk also has to be
initialized and marked as active for it to properly boot.
My drive is definately being recognized in Windows, and
all the files appeared to have been copied over, I just
cannot get it to boot to the new drive. I get a black
screen that says "Press A Key To Reboot"

Hate to say it, but start over again and use the Disk
Management utility in XP. If that gets your drive
recognized, then I'll expect help on how to get mine to
boot up properly *GRIN*

It is probably not marked as active. In the recovery console do
diskpart
then give the diskpart prompt the commands
List partitions
And note the number n for the partition concerned (probably 1 but don't
just assume this)
Select partition n
Active
Exit

I can boot to the splash and then the blue screen
with the Windows logo (comes up before the Welcomescreen,
I believe). It is hanging there. Hangs in safe mode and
safe mode command prompt, also. At least it now finds the
drive and doesn't send me setup on every boot. Any ideas
on how to get theis computer past the blue screen with the
MS logo are, of course, greatly appreciated.

If it is getting that far, boot the CD to immediate Recovery and try the
effect of
CHKDSK /F C:
