After reinstalling XP due to some corrupted files, the software works OK now,
but it does not recognize my display adapter, NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX440-8X. In
the Device Manager there is no display adapter listed, and I am having
trouble operating my scrolling and dragging features. NVIDIA is made by
ChainTech.

Thanks

Visit NVIDIA web site and download and install the drivers for the video
card.

Thanks Bob,
I have already done that and installed the drivers on my computer, but they
don't show up anywhere.

Did you remember to reinstall the motherboard chipset drivers?

How did you install the drivers? Where did you get them from? Are they
Windows XP drivers?

If you knew as much as you thought you know,
You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!

Instead visit the card manufacturer's website (I believe you said it's
chaintech - never heard of it) and download drivers from there. They may be
specialised.
