GeForce 2 wont work right

I have a 64 mb Nvidia Geforce 2 MX 400 video card (chaintech)

I install the drivers that came with the card and the computer crashes after
a couple minutes of a Direct3d program. So I get new drivers but now the
display is Garbled and it crashed. After disabling cursor and bitmap
accelerations the display looks better but you still cant play Direct3d games
or the computer freezes .

Oh, I uninstalled directX 9.0c cause i thought that might be what was
causing the trouble. it didnt help.

And a weird thing XP recognizes my card as a 32mb card.
On startup the Nvidia Video bios and my manual and the card Say its a 64mb
card.

Usually by updating/installing the correct motherboard chipset drivers, this
should be fixed. As part of the chipset drivers, you should have an AGP
slot driver which will give correct access to XP.

Have you checked the temperature of the card itself and the power supply
outputs when it is crashing? If the card is too hot to touch you will
need to add a fan to cool it. You can monitor the power supply outputs
with a program like Speedfan. If the power supply is not up to the job
you will see the voltages drop out of tolerance.

It does have a built in fan.

But the thing that gets me is the 32mb/64mb thing

Perhaps it is defective? Maybe the "clock speed" for memory is changed
for operation and half the memory can't respond. Perhaps the drivers are
not correct.

Well I just bought the card new.

But, anyways as of now the video card is irrelevant cause my motherboard
wont recoognize my Hard Drive. Any of them (3).

Do you suppose the problem is that the motherboard needs to be replaced?

im gonna try getting new ide cables (ATA133 HDD on 66 cable)
