XP Defrag and unmovable files

I have a separate hard drive where I store image backups of XP. I would
like to make the image files unmovable when I defrag that drive with the XP
defrag utility. How can I set this up>

You can either choose not to defrag that particular hard drive, or
create a new partition, move your image backups to it, then do
not defrag that partition. Otherwise, I know of no other solution.

Johanna,

The built-in defragmenter has no ability to exclude files from being
defragmented.

If you have some programming skills, you could write a program that opens
these files for exclusive access (which will prevent them from being
defragmented). Or, you could look at a 3rd party alternative. Most have
the ability to exclude files.
