Defragging Unmovable Files

My XP Pro drive C, partitioned to 11GB, has roughly 50
unmovable file segments if the graphics from defrag can be
believed. Originally, I beleive there were only two
segments of unmovable files on that drive. This is a
problem because it fragments the other files and I think
causes OS problems. Do I have to reformat Drive C and
install everything all over again or is there another way
to defrag the unmovable files on the drive and consolidate
them to one or two areas? Or, Is this normal, no need to
defrag and consolidate the unmovable files?

It is normal for there to be "unmovable" files on your
hard drive, these are system related.

But its not normal for those files to be fragmented into
50 plus segments. These system files are so fragmented
that they act like obstructions on the drive, fragmenting
other files.

You could use a commercial product such as PerfectDisk which can defrayment
offline, before windows is loaded and thus can defrayment all files
including system files.

Good idea. I was thinking about that but didn't know the
product. I tried Diskeeper and it was not very effective.
