XP critical updates

J

Jus_Me

I downloaded the updates 823559 and 817606 and tried to run them, but I am
getting the following error..."Setup could not verify the integrity of the
file update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this
computer" I have heard of this error before, but don't remember what the
fix is.

Again, thanks in advance.

.
To resolve this issue, set Cryptographic Services to
Automatic for Startup type. If this does not resolve the
issue, stop Cryptographic Services, and then rename the
%Systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 folder. To do so, follow
these steps:
Start the Administrative Tools utility in Control Panel.
Double-click Services.
Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties.
Click Automatic for Startup type, and then click Start.
Install Windows XP SP1 again. If the problem persists, go
to Step 6.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following commands, and
then press ENTER after each line:
net stop cryptsvc

Type exit to close the command prompt, and then install
Windows XP SP1 again.

Hi,

Open Windows Explorer to C:\Windows\system32, right-click/rename the
catroot2 folder to catold. Then retry the installation. When finished, there
will be a new catroot2 folder and you can safely delete the old renamed one.
