XP CRASH

My computer ( clevo m570U) worked properly yesterday, however today windows
failed to boot twice, and now when it boots BIOS does not recognize my HDD
and fails to see XP pro. I tried reinstalling windows only to discover it
also did not see a hdd.

why is it doing this randomly and how is it repairable?

Your effects are very much suggestive of a failed BIOS battery. When you
enter the bios setup, during a startup, is the clock Jan. 1 1980?

From what I remember the time in the BIOS was current and up to date. If not
what do I do anyway?

I would boot to the Recovery Console, and run the command:
CHKDSK /R
