XP Corrupted Registry, problem following KB307545

K

kt(uk)

Following the instructions from 307545 I managed to complete part 1. I
became stuck on Part 2 because I get an access denied message when trying to
read the folder C:\System Volume Information.

I have followed the instructions to allow myself access but this does not
work.

After the Restart when the PC finally to boot up a new user account was
reated called OWNER - non of my previous user accounts are shown. If I try
and access files and directories on the PC most of the time I get the message
YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THIS FILE/FOLDER.

This is stopping me from continuing with the recovery.

One other thing I have noticed is that my C and F hard drives now have
different letters, not sure if this is relevant or not.

Can anyone help please.

Thanks

Asking in a Windows XP discussion group would be best.

As you appear to be using a web interface, start here:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx

In the tree on the left, first open the English category, then open Windows.
In Windows, find and open the WindowsXP category.
In Windows XP , find a group to post in.
