I have an NT4 workgroup with mixed clients (Win 98, Win 2000 and Win XP).
From my Win 2000 client I can see all clients in My Network Places except for
1 XP client (I can see all other XP clients). From the offending XP client, I
can all clients on the network. The XP client is in the same workgroup, XP
firewall is off, tried adding NETBIOS and have read most of the threads (and
associated articles) in this discussion group. It's got to be a setting
somewhere on the XP client - but where?
Anyone any ideas?

How to hide a computer

Use net command, for example net config server /hidden:yes.

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm.

Check particularly the computer browser related chapter.

Thanks Hans-Georg.
Although I didn't carry out the suggestions, your article Computer browser
service put me on the right track. I checked the services which were running
and the Computer Browser service had failed to start because a dependent
service (Server) had been disabled - once these were started, then re-booted,
waited a few minutes and XP client was visible.

Thanks again.

Thank you very much for reporting back!

You actually did carry out the suggestions. The web page says,
"If this doesn't get the browser service to start, check all of
its dependencies and make sure that all services on which the
browser service depends are also running."
