XP Canon scanner TWAIN problems.

Attempting to re install Canon N124OU software after reformat of `C` drive,
keep getting error message `Unable to select TWAIN source` whenever I try to
use the Canon Scangear Toolbox. Further info indicates the TWAIN module
cannot be written to the "winnt" directory. Any advice on what this all means
? Thanks..

bazzer40,
You may need to reinstall the XP drivers and the software for the scanner. First download the drivers to folders, that you create on your HDD, then install them from there.

Download drivers from www.canon.com

Now you scanner may not work over a network, if that is what you are trying to do. You need to scan using the PC, connected to the scanner.

RRR_News,
Thanks for the reply, no network involved and have
dowloaded drivers, will try to reinstall them again, advice on Canon site
indicates a manual install of the Twain-driver may be the answer. Watch this
space.....

Actually canon is a b_tch to work with, one trick one must follow with its
software/driver installation. When opening xp and the found new hardware
wizard comes on,you install the cd for it,as it completes,do not exit that
win-
dow, leave it alone, next open canons installation software package from the
cd,it should want to run auto.Once youve completed, then exit xps wizard,re-
start computer, then get canons SP2 installation updates. If the installation
isnt
done as explained, canon just will not install.

As Andrew, canon scanners may be a headache to install on a XP PC. As I look over articles about the scanner you mention. It looks like it came to the market just before or around the time XP was introduced. It was designed for Pc's with Win9x, WinME, and Win2000 installed. They did create a driver/software for XP. But many people have found out to their dismay, when using hardware, that worked with older OS's. Even with a XP driver, the hardware still not work properly. Causing the person to purchase newer printers, scanners, digital cameras, etc....

From an article at PCMag about this printer:
CanoScan N124OU: A Skinny Scanner

Requires: A PC running Windows 98, 2000, or Me; USB port.

In Windows Vista, I was able to work around my Cannon scanner error "Unable to select TWAIN source".
I have Canon's scanner driver for Vista installed, but the Canon software couldn't find my scanner. However, the following worked:
Open Windows Photo Gallery.
Click File, and then click "Import from Camera or Scanner".
In the "Import Pictures and Videos" window, click the scanner that you want to use, and then click Import.
In the New Scan dialog box, click the Profile list, and then click Photo.
