Canon Scanner 4200F Integration

Greetings all; I'm new here,

Posted this on WinXP.General and got no response. Hope this group deals with
scanners.

I am having problems integrating a Canon Scanner 4200F with my PC. Both are
brand new.

PC Pentium IV 3.2Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 2 x 200 GB SATA HDD, 2 x DVD drives, running
Win XP SP2 Prof.

Immediately prior to this issue a brand new Canon Pixma iP4200 Printer
integrated perfectly.

Canon scanner software appeared to load OK: ScanGear CS (Twain); ArcSoft
PhotoStudio; OmniPage SE OCR etc

But
PhotoStudio (Acquire) reports "There is a TWAIN error. Maybe the device is
not connected"
OmniPage (Scanner Wizard) reports "The wizard is not able to find any
scanner drivers installed"

WinXP Device Manager shows no errors.
Win XP Control Panel / Scanners & Cameras is blank.

There is no fault with the USB cable - I used the scanner's cable with the
printer successfully.
Obviously the scanner hardware may simply be no good (some internal fault).
Perhaps the software (TWAIN driver) is not installed properly - although I
have uninstalled and reinstalled twice with no change in outcomes.

Is there any way to 'see' if the TWAIN drivers have loaded correctly - if so
what must I do to see this.
(I can already see new folders on the C root> CanoScan / CNQ4200 / CNQ4200
& CNQSG86 (these sub folders hold about 12 files each)).
WinXP has its USBSCAN.sys ver 5.1.2600.2180 in C / Win / Sys32 / drivers
(Canon CD carries version 4.10.0.1988)
Within C / Programs I can see folders for ArcSoft PhotoStudio and ScanSoft
OmniPage and a Canon folder which holds both printer and scanner folders.

Best advice would be much appreciated (before I return the hardware to
Canon). TIA

Rednelle
