Canon 4200F does not work on Vista

Hope someone can help. My research on the web did not.

I've installed the scanner Canon 4200F on my Dell Studio which has
Vista 32b.

I've downloaded and installed the driver & sw available online at
Canon:

ScanGear CS 8.6.1.1a
CanoScan Toolbox 4.612

The Scanner site in the Control Panel of Vista shows the 4200F and the
diagnosis/test button there says it works. (BUT the "profiles" button
in the same window says that "No scanner is installed" !!!)

The scanner appear in the System => Devices window which says it's
fine.

PROBLEM:
When I open the ToolBox, it get stuck and "Not Responding". Same thing
when I try to scan just pushing the button on the scanner. I can only
kill the ToolBox.

In XP everything worked fine.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Did you also download and install the DelDrv from the Canon website?http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=...

Thanks for asking.
First, I installed both ScanGear and Toolbox without running DelDrv
before. The "Not Responding" status kicked in.

Then, although it's not an upgrade XP to Vista (it's a brand new PC
with Vista) I did run the DelDrv before installing ScanGear and
Toolbox again.

Always same results: The "Not Responding" status persists.

I run out of options...

And did you install the drivers before connecting the scanner to the PC?

Yes. Sequence:

- Disconnect the USB of the scanner.
- Run deldrvvst2120ej (although I don't see the utility since this
Dell PC came brand new with Vista)
- Run 4200fvst8611a_xpen (the driver installer)
- Reconnect the scanner USB
- Install cstbwin4612en (the ToolBox SW)

No luck: When I open the ToolBox, it get stuck and "Not Responding".
Same thing when I try to scan just pushing the button on the scanner.
I can only kill the ToolBox.

Cannot be that I'm the only one in the world using the Canon 4200F on
Vista. And the only one fighting such problems...

Give Canon support an email or call. I do know and can confirm the Lide200
works fine in Vista 64... and in Windows 7 64 for that matter.

Yes, Canon recognizes that the 4200F driver (ScanGear CS 8.6.1.1a) is
not functional. They are fixing it and providing an updated one
shortly.

Thanks!
