XP boot problem - please help

William Jones

Aloha everyone,
I have a slight problem with booting my machine. Here is a list of what's
inside:

IDE1 (Pri) 120Gb HDD w/2 partitions
(Sec) 160Gb HDD

IDE2 (Pri) DVD-ROM
(Sec) DVD+-R/RW

WinXP is on the 80Gb partition of the HDD in IDE1. My boot process is:
DVD-ROM, DVD+-R/RW, FDD, then the Primary HDD in IDE1. The problem I have
is that if I don't have a bootable CD in either of the DVD drives (or a
bootable floppy in the FDD), the computer waits/hangs after checking the DVD
and FDD drives. For some reason, it doesn't automatically boot of the HDD.
If, however, I have my old Win2K install CD in either of the DVD drives, it
boots automatically into WinXP (after the 'Press any key to boot from the
CD' prompt times out).
The last thing I remember tweaking was the settings for my home network,
but I don't see how that would change the boot process. I don't have a huge
problem, in that I have my old Win2K CD, but I shouldn't have to stick that
in the computer just to boot it up (or reboot it, as the case may be).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm assuming that somewhere
in the registry is some setting that inadvertently got changed. If anyone
knows what could possibly be the problem, please help me. I'll be eternally
grateful for your assistance.

Hi,
You've probably already did this but if not
try checking in the bios. Maybe the boot sequence
got out of order somehow.
