XP Black Start menu and other problems.

Just a few questions.

Firstly I am running a PC with windows XP SP2 with all the latest updates
and I have checked my machine with Norton anti-virus, Sypbot and Ad-Aware.

The following problems occur occasionally.
1) A solid black box will appear in the start menu in place of all the short
cuts which I had pinned to it. Moving the pointer over the black area does
not reveal the shortcuts.

2) My quick launch toolbar will just disappear and when I restore it, the
icons are not in the order I had placed them in.

3) Clicking on the 'Run" command in the start menu results in the error
message saying that I cannot put a short cut here?

Finally I have noticed a drastic slow down when printing to my canon i960.
After an application has finished spooling it's data, printing starts but is
extremely slow. By slow I mean that the print head will pause for several
seconds at the end of each pass. Gradually the print speed increases, and by
the end of the document the printer is printing full speed.

I have looked at the task manager to see what is happening whilst printing
and it appears that the service 'spoolsv.exe' takes 0% processor time during
the very slow printing and 5 to 20% during 'normal' printing by the end of
the document.

So why is spoolsv.exe holding back when printing begins?
