XP Appearance reverting to default XP Blue??

B

I always run XP with minimal effects and classic windows syle as the
theme. Recently, around the same time I installed DVDshrink, every
time I restart my XP appearance reverts to the default XP blue theme no
matter what theme I had chosen before the restart. Also, all the
windows titlebars are smaller than normal, with small min/max/close
buttons. Anybody seen this behaviour before?

If you're using Windows Classic you do not need the Themes service running.

Try disabling the Themes service.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Themes | If Themes is running, click the
Stop button | Set Startup type to Disabled | Click Apply | Click OK

Bryanvick,

I have the same issue as you do. Properties say its windows classic, but
I'm looking at Xp with strange smaller min/max/close buttons. The only way
around it seems to be a reformat. If the reformat doesnt work, reformat
again, etc...

I usually have to reformat my pc about 4 times for the classic theme to
stick. I've tried all of the tweaks for saving settings and disabling the
themes service. Nothing seems to work. I have a Dell by the way. Maybe you
have the same. I contacted them and they dont have a clue as usual stating
"classic theme doesn't change the windows or the taskbar". Just too bad
there arent more people like us to get a definate cure for this.

I'm dying to know a solution. I just had to reformat my computer recently
and the problem came back. It took 5 times to get t to stick. If afraid
when I get home tonight it will have reverted back to the buggy xp look again.
