XP and ME P2P network setup

I can ping my me computer from my xp computer, but when i
ping xp from me, i get the "request timed out" message. if
i watch local area connection staus on the xp computer, i
can see the packets arriving in the activity box but not
being replied. Internet connection firewall appears to be
turned off.

Check the Duplex settings of the NIC card.
