Cannot ping other machine on P2P network...why?

Hi, I have two PCs, one running XP Home, the other XP Pro, both on SP3.
Plugged in a crossover network cable to join the two-P2P, no hubs or anything.
XP Home IP=192.168.1.2
XP Pro IP=192.168.0.1 (set up by Networking Wizard).
I cannot ping between the 2 PCs (ie. ping 192.168.0.1 from 192.168.1.2 and
vice versa).

Network indicator on taskbar shows networking connected - no limited
connectivity errors or anything.

Please help, been spending hours trying to fix this.....

Thanks for any help....

I been scratching my head wondering why.

Hey Robert,
Thanks for the pointer. Changed IP in XP Pro, disabled and enabled, checked
with ipconfig to see if new IP address has been acquired-it has.
Still cant ping either way.

Puzzled,
Peter
