Can someone please tell me how or if I can change the
main XP user name. What happened was I bought a brand
new laptop (legit, i promise!!) that has XP installed
already and this person installed it with his name and so
whenever I lock the computer I have to use his name as
the username. Also the DOcuments&Settings folder has his
name there, and I would like to change.

Any suggestions, please!!!

Create a new user for yourself in control panel, user accounts and then
delete his user.

Easy,

got to control panel "User accounts", Choose "Change an
account" etc.

I'm sorry all, i may have misled you a bit. I meant the
Owner name information as was used to activate the
product and install it, gow do I change this.

Thank you for replying though!

As we all replied, you can't change it(technically you can change the name
that shows on the welcome screen, but it does not change ANYWHERE else) So
if you a new name, create a new user and delete the old user.

The registered name can be changed with regedit.exe at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\

and in the right pane d-click Registered Owner and change (and
Registered organisation).

That is really only for convenience when you install software -0 that is
the name it will suggest. It is *Not* necessary to do anything about
registering; what matters is *activation* which relates solely to the
hardware and does not include an owners name - so no action is needed on
that, either
