How would the advanced nvidia chipset of the xbox compare to a Radeon 9700
(np)? I am trying to decide what is better for games.
TIA

If the rest of your PC is up to scratch then Xbox is gonna have a real,
real hard time keeping up with the 9700!

Can the X-Box do 1280X960 with 4X FSAA and 16X Anisotropic Filtering turned
on smoothly & fast 75FPS on average? No
640X480 is it and on a TV, don't think FFSA and AF are available and if they
where that nVidia chipset does a very poor job anyway.

X-Box II might be interesting, ATI graphics *8D

A PC, even with an XP-2500/2600 etc in it plus 256megs of RAM (512M or more
is perfect for some new games and for WinXP) and an ATI 9700NP/or Pro
would be decent enough and would be very capable.

Also a lot depends on what you wish to play.... Myself online gaming is the
way to go, so have a PC, Battlefeild 1942 etc is perfect with the setings I
mentioned above *8)

The real issue is there are very few games on the PC use most of the
features of the new cards today. Every Game on the Xbox has been
developed and optimized for it's hardware. As a whole Xbox games look
better than the average pc game cause pc games are developed for the
low end segment of pc users and has to be developed to work well on
many different hardware platforms.
Doesn't matter - (plus I partly disagree with your view on current PC games)

The Xbox hardware, which is on par with a GeForce3 with little memory,
does not allow for playing even older 3D games with high resolutions,
FSAA and high framerates. Something that has a huge impact on gameplay
quality in my view, playing a game like Unreal Tournament (A DirectX6
title) in 1600*1200 FSAA with 70+ fps is damn great and way beyond the
Xbox.

Not to mention that most of the Xbox games I have suffer from occasional
frame rate drops, just try a game of Project Gotham Racing with rain
enabled or one of the more complex scenes in Halo - both titles which
are hugely praised by Microsoft. To me that is also why Halo has not yet
been released on the PC, it would simply highlight how current PC's are
hugely supperior.

Another prime example would be Morrowind, it is played a lot better on
the PC.

Kind regards

Bruno

True, but I have to say I haven't seen anything pushed like the Commodore 64
was in the 1980's!
Showing my age..

Have to disagree, anything on the PC with a card running with 4X FSAA and
16AF looks better than
the same title or a similar title being run on the X-Box.
FSAA and AF have nothing to do with the gaming code, they are features of
the video cards hardware.

One reason why all Games have options for Visual and Sound setings, not all
PCs are created equal.
640x480 with no FSAA, no AF and no DirectX9 isn't a forced requirement to
play games on the PC,
You can change the setings You know. As for being in the low end segment in
the arena of gaming have you
been to a Computing Gaming Store recently? No way in hell the console games
hold anything over
most new PC titles available. Don't forget to check the hardware
requirements for most of those new games
they havn't been developed for the low end segment of PC users. If a low end
PC user was to buy and try
and run one, well they might just have to settle for 640X480 like console
users do, with no frills attached....
