Wrong icons showing.

Although my .avi files are associated with VideoLAN, the icon that represent
them is the Realplayer Icon. If I associate them with Windows Media Player,
the Icon changes to WMP but If I try to associate them with ANY other
program, it still shows the realplayer icon, although the association is
working properly.

I did not try uninstalling Realplayer because I fear that I'll get a "no
program association" icon. Only my .avi are screwed.....

Is there a place in the registry where the file association can be handled
manually?

To set the default WMP icon: Right click on an .avi file and select "Opens
with"\select program\click on Windows Media Player\check the "Allways use
the selected program to open this type of files" and Accept.

It's just the icon, it doesn't mean you files aren't associated with the
right program.

I use zoom player, and the icons are still WMP. In fact I don't seem to be
able to change the icons.

In any case it is easy to associate a file with a program.

I've noticed this behavior before, some programs either don't update the
icons properly, or maybe another program has a persistant presence in the
registry.

I expect there is a registry entry that could be hacked, but is it really
worth the hassle?
