Writing to DVD-+R/RW in XP

I have a DVD-+RW in both my desktop machine and my laptop which I want to use
to back up data but when I use the CD writing facility instead of one of the
other 'writer' programmes I have it doesn't recognise the dvd as a disk
(already it does show the amount of free space). Anyone any ideas why? I
must admit I haven't tried this again since I installed service pack 2 so if
this issue has been resolved I apologise for my ignorance. It would be
really useful to have the facility as it can be time consuming using the
other software as I then have to format the DVD (since I prefer to use
explorer to copy the files across). Does anyone know if this now works with
dvd-r/rws

DVDs are not CDs. You can't use Windows _CD_ writing S/W to write _DVD_.

Thats what we all have to do.

Hi Wendy,

WinXP's native burning platform does not support writing to DVD media, it's
CD only. To write to DVD's, you need a third party program, most of which
are usually supplied with the DVD burner.

How can I get my files copied to either my cd or dvd. It keeps telling to
insert in drive D. I've tried the top and bottom place and it won't copy.

Go to a local computer store and buy either Roxio Easy Nedia Creator 7 or
Ahead Nero Ultra 6.
