WPA not a choice in WiFi Advanced

D

Dr. Dos

I only have two choices for setting up WiFi connection security:
Disabled and WEP. There is no WPA, which I need to make a WiFi booster work.
I am running XP SP2. I installed the MS upgrade for WPA2. I also
installed new drivers and setup utility for the Intel Wireless Pro 2100
3B Centrino built-in card on my Toshiba Sat. Pro M10-S405
Is there a way to "install" WPA, or "add it?"
There are no "clients" "services" or "protocols" I see to install for
WPA in advanced network setup.
I see no WiFi Advanced Options in services.msc or in msconfig, or in
add/remove programs.

Hey Dr. Dos

This is an interesting issue as I have not seen it before. Here is an
aritcle from Microsoft on an overview of WPA:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/815485/
Also, this might also be useful:
http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/pro2100/
"It fixed itself!!!" (ha-ha)
After several reboots, another choice appeared in the network
authentication dialog window in advanced network configuration settings
for this wifi network. Prior to my attempts, my only two choices in that
window were open or shared. I happened to check that selector again, and
now there are open. shared, wpa. wpa-psk. When I selected wpa-psk, I
could use the wpa wep. This happened to cure my problem of adding a wifi
extender/booster. Seems the extender is only compatible with WPA and not
the older 128 bit WEP.

I cannto see the WPA choice. When installing the patch
(Q815485_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe), I get a dialog box that states:

"Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of the system installed is
newer than the update you are applying to it. You can only install this
update on Service Pack 1"

There is another patch I tried as well: (WindowsXP-KB826942-x86-ENU.exe),
and it produced an error as well: "Setup has detected that the Service Pack
version of the system installed is newer than the update you are applying.
There is no need to install this update"

When verifying the version of Windows running in "My Computer", it says
"Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2"

Furthermore, when typing "ver" at a DOS prompt it says "Microsoft Windows XP
[Version 5.1.2600]

Any help or insight here would be greatly appreciated. (e-mail address removed)

Thank you!!
